Roosevelt Bridge

Structural health monitoring of the two bridges that allow motor traffic on Route 1 in Florida (USA)

  • Client: Florida DOT

  • Date: 2021

  • Description: The Roosevelt Bridge is a major 1,392-meter-long highway bridge that spans the St. Lucie River in Stuart, Florida. It is made up of two separate bridges, northbound and southbound, with 3 lanes on each allowing traffic on US Route 1.
The implemented monitoring solution supervises the health status of the bridge by detecting abnormal deformations caused by recent breaks in the post-tensioned cables in the first section of the bridge heading south. In addition, the solution will allow to quantify the structural changes in the bridge, in the event that new cable breaks occur.
Finally, the thermal stress to which the bridge is subject will be monitored thanks to the system's double temperature measurement capacity.
