The knowledge and monitoring of landslides is a fundamental task for the correct evaluation of geotechnical risks during the exploration and construction phases of a work. In this context, the instrumentation of boreholes by means of innovative monitoring techniques based on distributed fiber optic sensors makes it possible to automate the measurement procedure, as well as increase the information available from the borehole, in addition to extending the lifetime of the borehole with respect to traditional auscultation techniques.
On the slopes of the Yesa dam, 3 inclinometric pipes of 35, 75 and 120 meters depth have been installed for remote and continuous monitoring. These actions are pioneering worldwide and represent the first three installations carried out in Spain through the use of this type of technology.
